We finally did it. We went off-post!
But first, we had to take care of business. I actually got permission to run by myself! So I did three 800m repeats at my goal pace for the APFT two-mile, 6:30 min miles. I just ran a slightly bigger loop around the barracks, but I still had to wear my bright yellow PT belt – HA! I did a total of 2.5 miles before I ate the BEST mango ever! And some cheerios with maple syrup and peanut butter – delicious! And banana chocolate protein pudding, of course.
Then I hitched a ride to the schoolhouse with the people who had guard duty today so I could get some practicing out of the way! I got over two hours in on horn and piano today and we were out of there by 10:30! Woot woot!
We stopped at the bowling alley for me to grab some sweet potato fries, and I took them to the food court at the NEX to eat with a salad at lunch. Helfrich and Sondelski ate at Subway. Sometimes we just need a break from the galley. Then I bought some eggs and larabars and bananas at the Commissary, and we took a stromboli and a coffee back to Barr and Carman. We’ve got your back, Battle Buddies!
THEN – jailbreak time! We had to walk to the gate, and then we got an Uber from there. We went to MacArthur Center, a pretty darn huge mall. First stop – Starbucks!
Here’s some awesome soaps, a cute magnet, and a choker from American Eagle:
And I really want this tumbler:
There was live music at the mall! We found a jazz combo:
There was a children’s art exhibit:
And what’s a mall without some board games? Morgan kicked Jarrett’s booty – go girl, go!
After the mall, we all walked to the waterfront in downtown Norfolk! Check out this massive ship!
They have a thing for mermaids around these parts…
There were a ton of restaurants in one big building, so we all got whatever food we wanted and ate together. So cute! Ok here’s the whole group – Mejias, Cislaru, Sondelski, Barr, Helfrich, Russert, Murrow, Carpenter, Hettema, and me.
I got this hugh jass salad for $5 and then this hugh jass piece of English toffee for $5… it all evens out, right?
AND I might have gotten many samples of fudge from this shop… they were such good showsmen! They sang in harmony, got the crowd really involved, and gave out samples, of course 🙂 I think it’s pretty cool that they make everything right in front of us!
There was also some sweet artwork and a public piano!
But wait, there’s more! There was a Grease performance from some high school kids!
So wow, we did a ton of stuff today and we still got back to the barracks by 7! Yep, it was an awesome day!
BUT… Will is visiting his friends down in North Carolina. And guess what’s only slightly out of his way as he drives home? Good old JEBFLC! He’s stopping by with Maggie tomorrow afternoon! A group of us were going to the beach around 1 pm anyway, so we’re all good with the Battle Buddy system :):) lol. So tomorrow is a TRX workout, breakfast in my room, practicing from 8-10:15, church, lunch chow, then beach and WILL AND MAGGIE!!
Verse of the Day:
– Jeremiah 17:7-8
– “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Life isn’t always going to go my way. And it’s certainly never going to be perfect! But it’s all about how I handle myself in the midst of my trials and my joys. Do I always put my best foot forward? Give all of my effort, even when it’s hard and I feel drained? Do I shrink back in fear in times of drought, or do I hold strongly to God and step out in faith? Do I continue to do good works and be the light? Some things for me to reflect on, for sure!
